Alloys are composed of specific amounts or concentrations of alloying elements. The concentrations of the alloying elements heavily influence the properties of the metal, such as strength, ductility, corrosion resistance, etc. and must be idealized for the intended purpose of the metal.
Chemical analysis is performed to measure the precise elemental composition of materials. This can be used to verify that a material meets compositional requirements of a material specification or to identify the elemental composition of an unknown material.
Accu-Test Labs performs chemical analysis of metallic materials using the following methods:
Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES)
Combustion (LECO) Analysis for Carbon, Sulfur, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Hydrogen
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) for Positive Material Identification (PMI)
EDS analysis
